Portland protests

As part of 2,600 other “No Kings” events held across the U.S., thousands of people gathered at the federal courthouse in Eugene Saturday to denounce the Trump Administration.

Portland Police Chief Bob Day says he’s already spoken to federal agencies, asking them to leave law enforcement to local officials.

Protesters injured by federal law enforcement officers in Portland during the summer of 2020 say they’re still seeking accountability for constitutional rights violations, according to a federal lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court. During July 2020, “the federal government unleashed unprecedented and sustained violence and intimidation on the people of Portland,” the lawsuit states.

Protests in Portland, Ore., have de-escalated since state troopers took over from federal law enforcement last week. But the truce is fragile, and some worry things could turn bad again.
