Amtrak had to halt train service between Portland and Seattle this week after a landslide blocked the train tracks between Kelso and Olympia, Washington.
Transportation officials say the recent rains have also caused a few small landslides on rural roads which crews were able to clean up quickly. Angela Beers-Seydel is with Oregon Department of Transportation.
“We’re definitely concerned and we’re watching closely." Beers-Seydel said. "It’s that time of year where you just don’t know when you’re on a rural road what you may run into. Everything’s so dry then everything’s so wet. Yeah, we’ve got crews on at night already and they’re watching that and responding to it.”
Meanwhile, snow is possible in the lower elevations early next week, which could also affect roads and rail travel.
