The Shedd's Music & World Cultures program presents The Eugene Pipe & Drum band.

The Eugene Highlanders band began in 1953 under the direction of PM Hector Smith who served as pipe major for over fifty years. They continue in that spirit to keep the music flowing, bringing history alive and carrying bagpiping, highland drumming and dancing forward as a living art form. Playing at Highland Games and other Celtic events around the region and have proudly kept the Scottish tradition and history alive in Eugene for many years.
The Shedd’s MUSIC & WORLD CULTURES program offers a wide variety of cultural enrichment performances each year. All of these programs are entertaining for children and adults alike, while also having an educational underpinning to set the music in its cultural and historical context. We provide each participating teacher with a large, integrated curriculum packet that includes the words for the songs, vocabulary words, extra activities, reading suggestions, and more.

Hawaiian music legend and National Heritage Fellow Led Kaapana is unrivaled in his exceptional picking style on slack key guitar and ‘ukulele, along with his baritone to falsetto vocal range. Down home and real, he’s a delightful performer with rascal charm. Led is joined by “The Hawaiian Boy” Mike Kaawa, Hawaii’s finest 12-string guitar player and one of its most highly regarded musician, and Mike's hula dancer sister Aurora Kaawa, who has won accolades in her own right, including being crowned Miss Hawai‘i.

Our intrepid Moombahteers venture into the world of tale tales and other silly stuff and along the way cross paths with Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett, Johnny Appleseed, Rip Van Winkle, and even Bre'r Rabbit. Old favorite songs include: "Erie Canal", "Yankee Doodle", "God Bless America", "Clementine", and ""Puff The Magic Dragon".
Come join the Magical Moombah for a great good time! Fun! Contests! Jokes! Lots of songs! Dancing around! And don't miss the special Magical Moombah Music Box at 11:15 am, free with your ticket!

A weeklong creative writing camp for young writers who dream big, weird, and wonderful.

🛸🦄✨ Calling all young writers who love magic portals, space missions, dragons, time travel, epic quests, and evil empires!

This is the summer camp where your wild imagination isn’t just welcome—it’s essential.

Join us for a week of world-building, character-crafting, and plot-twisting fun, where you’ll create your own short story set in a universe of your own making. With two master fantasy and sci-fi writers as your guides, you’ll dream up something amazing—and bring it to life.

This camp is perfect for middle school writers (ages 11–14) who love stories and want to write their own—especially if they’re into science fiction, fantasy, or both. Mature younger writers, and writers who’ve attended our monthly Write Club workshops are also welcome to join in.

Wordcrafters SciFi & Fantasy summer camp is taught by two masters of science fiction and fantasy storytelling—Sarina Dorie and Nina Kiriki Hoffman. They’re not just regular teachers–they’re award-winning authors, world-builders, and lovers of all things magical and strange. With years of experience writing (and teaching writing), they’ll help you find your voice, unlock your creativity, and have a blast doing it.

At Adventures in Writing, young writers explore the vast world of storytelling—one prompt, one idea, one adventure at a time. Whether you’re dreaming up magical realms, historical dramas, swoony romances, or stories pulled from real life, this is the camp where it all comes to life on the page.

Write something brand new each day, or stick with one piece and take it all the way to “The End.” This camp gives you the space and support to follow your inspiration, revise and polish your work, and share it (if you want to) with a cheering squad on Friday.

Who’s this camp for?
Middle school writers (ages 11–14) who want to explore storytelling in all kinds of flavors—sci-fi, fantasy, historical, contemporary, romance, memoir, mystery—you name it. Mature younger writers, and writers who’ve attended our monthly Write Club workshops are also welcome to join in.

Meet your instructor
Drea Lee is the vibrant, thoughtful teaching artist behind our monthly Write Club youth workshops. A talented writer, passionate teacher, and all-around creative powerhouse, Drea knows how to help young storytellers unlock their creativity and discover the magic in their own voice. Campers love her fun writing prompts, deep story knowledge, and playful, inclusive, encouraging approach. With years of experience writing (and teaching writing), they’ll help you find your voice, unlock your creativity, and have a blast doing it.

Start in the Farmers Market Pavilion (85 E 8th Ave), where you can pick up your ArtWalk Guide, and check out the Youth Artist Exhibition before exploring the many galleries and arts venues of downtown Eugene. The monthly First Friday ArtWalk is presented by Lane Arts Council and is always free.

Join us for a celebration of talented young artists in our community! First, Lane Arts Council’s Design Arts Apprenticeship Showcase features projects created by middle and high school students during a 10-week apprenticeship with local, professional artists. There’s even more art to discover at the Youth Artist Exhibition throughout the Pavilion, while musicians from MEPAA’s KIDZ Rock Festival perform live starting at 7:00pm. Come get a peek at the bright future of Eugene’s arts scene!
