It’s been more than a week now since the Holiday Farm Fire sparked along Highway 126. It’s grown to more than 166,573 acres and is 6% contained.
Firefighters are facing tough terrain, hazardous air quality and, of course, the risk of COVID-19. But Holiday Farm Fire spokesperson Brian Richardson said the smoke fog combination of recent days has been an additional concern.
“The weather conditions are causing those safety concerns.” Richardson said, “Especially for our crews. And safety is top of mind. Whether it be for the community, whether it be for the firefighters. We’re always thinking about safety and how we can make sure that people get home safely.”
Richardson said they’ve adjusted the schedule so that crews are starting later in the day when visibility is better in the smoky fog. There have been no injuries to firefighters reported on the Holiday Farm Fire. There has been one fatality, found by fire crews. The medical examiner is still investigating.
