The second gentleman of the United States was in Eugene Monday. The husband of Vice President Kamala Harris visited a COVID-19 vaccination clinic and met with state and local leaders.
Douglas Emhoff entered the W.O.W. Hall in downtown Eugene flanked by secret service. A White Bird Medical mass vax clinic was in full swing. He gave kudos to an individual receiving his first dose of vaccine. Then he got an introduction from Oregon Governor Kate Brown.
“Let’s give an Oregon, Eugene, White Bird welcome to the second gentleman of the United States of America.” The room broke out in applause.
Emhoff’s visit was meant to highlight local work to roll out vaccine and create partnerships to decrease disparities in health care. He said he’ll take what he learned back to the Biden/Harris administration.
“I always learn a lot and take it all back," Emhoff said. "I hear what you’re saying and it will get put into the pipe line and we will respond.”
The second gentleman will head north to Washington state before returning to Washington, D.C.
