COVID-19 Cases In School-aged Kids On The Rise In Lane Co.

Lane County has seen an increase in coronavirus cases of school-aged children this week. Public Health officials say the case numbers in this age range have doubled.

Most cases are attributed to extra-curricular activities outside the classroom but not all of them.

Officials say a local teacher who was not vaccinated--traveled for spring break and then returned to the classroom without being tested. After the teacher began having symptoms, testing revealed infection but not before exposure to students.

The impact of the coronavirus has been found to be less severe to children than other populations. And schools have been deemed low-risk for spread. However, transmission within households remains a threat when young people contract COVID-19.
