The Executive Director of ShelterCare will retire at the end of this year. Susan Ban has led the human-services agency in the Eugene-Springfield community for over 28 years. As KLCC’s Tiffany Eckert reports, the announcement gives staff and volunteers opportunity to reflect on her work.
Jacob Fox is Vice Chair of the ShelterCare Board of Directors.
“Susan Ban’s reputation really extends across the state and across the nation. Obviously in Lane County, she is one of the preeminent leaders in serving folks most in need in our community, especially the chronically homeless.”
Fox, who is also Executive Director of Homes for Good, calls Ban an “amazing community partner” working with other organizations to reduce homelessness. He says under Ban’s direction, ShelterCare has expanded services--specifically to an underserved population: individuals with serious mental illness.
A national search is underway and a new E.D is expected to be hired by late fall.
