Activists around the nation are gearing up for a general strike Friday, in opposition to the policies of the Trump Administration. Actions are planned for Eugene and Corvallis.
The general strike, also known as F-17, calls for people to walk out of work or school to protest. Chloe Meyere is helping to organize a rally in Eugene. She says she’s felt empowered to protest rhetoric she’s heard from President Trump and his supporters. She’s especially concerned about women’s and immigrant rights. She says her family came to the U.S. as refugees during the Soviet era.
Meyere: “I come directly from somebody who knows what it’s like to come here with literally nothing because they are being oppressed where they live and they need to look for something better and America opened its arms and that’s why I’m around today.”
In Eugene, people plan to gather at 11 a.m. in the park blocks downtown for a rally. Corvallis activists have organized an event that will include speakers and a march.
