DeFazio Calls Trump’s Encouragement Of Rioters 'Sedition'

Rep. Peter DeFazio

Oregon Democratic Representative Peter DeFazio said Donald Trump should be declared unfit for office after the president’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol Building Wednesday.

DeFazio said capitol guards were not ready for the rioters and he wondered why it took so long for Trump to call the National Guard in. He said Trump’s encouragement of his followers is criminal.

“I think he has committed acts of sedition by fomenting this whole thing.” DeFazio said.  “By fabricating a myth that the election was stolen.”

DeFazio also called Ted Cruz and other lawmakers who support an overthrow of the election seditious. He said Trump’s cabinet should invoke the 25th amendment and declare the president unfit for office. But he doesn’t think they have the guts.

“You know what more damage can he wreak?” DeFazio asked. “Today, they’re leasing the Alaska National wildlife refuge.”

Still, DeFazio said he’s hopeful about what Democrats can accomplish with Biden as president and control of Congress come January 20th.
