Eugene’s State of Emergency, declared at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic three months ago, has expired.
Mayor Lucy Vinis says the decision to end the order is not because the crisis is over. She says it is just time to move forward.
“While it might seem as if we are slowing things down and moving back to how things were, I want to make sure it’s clear: This is how we’ll be operating for the foreseeable future,” said Vinnis.
“We will be in Phase 2 for the coming months and won’t be able to open without restrictions until a vaccine has been distributed.”
Vinnis says while no longer under an emergency, communities remain at risk of spreading the virus. She stresses the need to continue physical distancing and good hygiene practices.
As summer approaches, Vinnis says the City of Eugene has begun reinstating some seasonal services like day camps and adult recreation. Amazon Pool will soon re-open for lap swims and Sheldon Pool will follow in July.
