Eugene's White Bird Clinic Honored At White House On July 4th

Chris Hecht

The Executive Coordinator of White Bird Clinic was at the White House for its Independence Day celebration last Sunday. The Eugene-based outreach clinic was honored for it’s COVID-19 vaccination project.

Chris Hecht represented White Bird volunteers and staff who have provided over 7,200 shots to Lane County residents.

Hecht met Dr. Jill Biden and says he was pleased with the nuance of President Joe Biden’s remarks to the crowd of over a thousand on the South Lawn.

:16 “He praised all the success that we’ve had so far-- but also acknowledged that we have significant work left to do in protecting all our community members, especially individuals in communities that suffer from health and healthcare disparities.”

Now back home, Hecht says “we have to fight COVID-19 on a shot by shot basis.” To reach underserved, rural communities, White Bird will be using a custom-outfitted vaccination van awarded by the Oregon Health Authority.
