OSP Seeks Leads On Stolen Interpretive Signs

Oregon State Parks

Thieves have stolen four educational signs from Lincoln County Parks.  State police are investigating.

The 2' x 3' signs – along with their metal bases - were stolen from Fogarty Creek State Park, Otter Crest Scenic Viewpoint, Boiler Bay Scenic Viewpoint, and the Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area between Christmas Eve and December 30th of last year.

Jered Mangini, Park Manager for Beverly Beach State Park management unit, told KLCC the thefts come at a bad time.

“We have gone through some budget cuts and stuff where my management unit budget does not have roughly $7,000 to get them all redone," explained Mangini.

"It’s a little tougher when it’s an educational piece when we’re – as an agency - haven’t been able to fulfill our educational side with the pandemic going on and cutbacks.  We really were relying on the signage to help educate visitors.”

Mangini doesn’t know what compelled someone to steal the signs, though often stolen metal is pawned for cash.

People with information can call Oregon State Police at 800-442-0776.
