The world’s top athletes will not experience Eugene’s new Hayward Field this year. The Diamond League announced today (Friday) the 2020 Prefontaine Classic has been cancelled.
The international track and field meet had been pushed from June 6th to October 4th for COVID-19 safety. Organizers point to current and expected restrictions on international travel, as well as concerns about U.S. coronavirus hotspots, in making the decision. While several Diamond League events remain on the schedule, a September meet in Paris was also cancelled today.
