Owner Jacqui Willey said the campus Glenwood was busiest when Sacred Heart was the regional medical center.

Eugene’s Glenwood restaurant near the University of Oregon campus has sold and will serve its last omelettes around spring break.

The homey restaurant opened its Alder Street location in 1983. Owner Jacqui Willey said she cares for the place, but crime is up, including recent assaults on two tenants who lived behind the building. Since she’s planning to retire, Willey agreed to sell to the developer who’d bought the 7-11 next door.

“It may be time for a building where you have to have a smart key to get in the front door," she said. "Maybe we’re just starting to have some of those bigger city problems.”

Willey said she declined a ground floor spot in the planned high rise. She’d like to keep the crew employed, rather than wait for construction to complete. She told KLCC, “I would love to be in North Eugene or Coburg Road or out Bethel, but we’ve not found a spot that we can afford yet that is real tempting.”

The Willamette Street location will remain open. Willey hopes her children will take over the business.
