Lane County Receives NRA Foundation Grant

lanecounty.org

The National Rifle Association has given a grant to Lane County. It’s meant to help the financially strapped parole and probation department train its officers. KLCC’s Corinne Boyer has more.

Lane County Parole and Probation has received $1450 dollars from the NRA Foundation to fund equipment including moving targets, those are the paper outlines used in shooting ranges. Anne Marie Levis, Lane County Public Information Officer says training is the first area affected by budget cuts.

“Our staff at Parole and Probation has been looking for opportunities to apply for grants that can help to train people, that can help to augment services that we’re able to provide. This was a small grant from the National Rifle Association that enables us to do some training on fire arms.”

The department monitors people released from Lane County Jail and also helps individuals search for job training. The NRA foundation raises tax-deductable funds for “firearm-related public interest activities” including law enforcement officers.
