At a press conference Thursday morning, Lane County first responders explained how they are working to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Sheriff Cliff Harrold shared precautions taken in the Lane County Jail.
Sheriff Harrold said they have 24-seven medical services within Lane County Jail. A registered nurse is in the booking area, and completes evaluations on everyone who is brought in.
They have also created a plan that allows attorneys to practice social distancing with their clients, as well as reduce the number of people allowed to visit.
“Rather than three family members [visiting] per individual that's incarcerated, we've limited that to one," said Harrold. "So that limits the number of people that are waiting in that visiting area to do visiting.”
They are also working with their phone service provider so people can speak with family members remotely.
“They are now providing weekly free video conferencing with the individual that's in custody," said Harrold. "So that's a service that normally costs the family some money to be able to video conference with a person in custody.”
Harrold says they are prepared to isolate people who test positive for COVID-19.
