The Lane Blood Center needs donations, and they want to help wildland firefighters. They're hoping the community will answer the call with two charity events this month.
With people on summer vacation and college students away until the fall, there are fewer blood donors available. And local traumas have depleted inventories of o blood types.
Vignos: "We need O types, which is O negative and O positive. And we also need A positive blood right now."
That's Cynthia Vignos with Lane Blood Center.
Vignos: "And so for every unit of blood collected during the month of August the Lane Blood Center will contribute a dollar to the Wildland Firefighters Foundation. This is a non-profit organization that supports the families of firefighters who have been injured or killed on the job."
Lane Blood Center is also collecting high-protein snack foods and hygienic wipes for firefighters. These will go to Dust Busters, LLC of Eugene, an emergency response company that sends out contract firefighters.
