A fire that broke out Wednesday night one mile southeast of Canyonville has grown to approximately 80 acres.

UPDATED Thursday July 25 6:50pm:

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and fire managers have elevated the evacuation notice to Level 2 or "Set" for residents living in the 100-300 block of Ritchie Road. This affects 3 homes in the area.

Level 2 or "Set" means there is significant danger and you should be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice. This may be the only notice you receive if conditions worsen. Supply your "go kit" with all the essentials to last 2 weeks. And stay connected with emergency information and evacuation routes.

Flames and smoke are visible from Interstate 5 and the blaze has been named the Milepost 97 Fire.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office issued a Level 1 "Be Ready" evacuation notice for residents of the 100 to 300 block of Ritchie Road. This means residents should be prepared to evacuate.

According to Adam Sinkey, an incident commander with the Douglas Forest Protective Association, one firefighter was taken to hospital for a heat-related illness but was released a short while later.

Multiple air and ground resources are attacking the blaze which is burning in steep, dry terrain.
