Across Oregon, crews are mopping up on many major wildfires.  However, a warm spell next week could pose challenges.

After several days of heavy rain, containment levels have tripled since last week.  Along the Holiday Farm Fires’ edge, crews are digging and bulldozing lines.

Incident spokesman Tom Fields of the Oregon Department of Forestry said they might accomplish something major soon.

Crews - equipped with chainsaws or pulaskis - prepare to clear brush and dig lines at Destination Foxtrot south of Leaburg.

“We might have a line around that fire sometime early next week. It doesn’t mean full containment, but at least we’ve got a full circle around it to where we can strengthen and mop up towards the interior, and put this thing to bed.”

As to a four-day stretch of 80-degree, mostly dry and windy weather next week?

“Yes, we do have our eyes a little bit more glued to the sky than normal. I think our bigger concern is the things that happen outside our fire.”

Fields says locals need to hold off on debris burning and campfires until burn bans are lifted.
