City Club of Eugene: Reopening for Business in Eugene: Are We There Yet?

Recorded On: June 26, 2020

Air Date: June 29, 2020

From the City Club of Eugene:

After an extensive state shutdown, most business are now permitted to reopen, with conditions.  Reopening under these conditions and succeeding under them are two entirely different things, however.  To paraphrase a great baseball movie, “If you open it, will they come?” How are local businesses faring with the new restrictions?  How many people in Eugene feel comfortable venturing out to dine or shop or have routine medical visits?

Brittany Quick-Warner, President and CEO of the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, will explain how our broader business community is faring. John Barofsky will speak about impacts to the restaurant and hospitality sector, while Casey Barrett will discuss the retail, hotel, and commercial real estate sector.  Dr Stacy Chance, the Chief Medical Officer for Oregon Medical Group, will address impacts to the healthcare field.

Brittany Quick-Warner has served the Eugene area since 2013 as a staff member at the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce. Originally hired as the Events Coordinator, she quickly moved into the position of Director of Business Advocacy. There her passion for shaping public policy and community engagement found purchase. In 2017, she was appointed as the President and CEO of the Chamber. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Brittany is a University of Missouri graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

Casey Barrett is Co-Manager of Obie Development Partners, LLC. Casey manages activities at the 5th Street Market, the Inn at the 5th, and the new 5th Street Market expansion project. Casey’s natural leadership skills have been honed during his 15 years with the company, working closely with tenants and guiding and mentoring his staff.
