U.S. Forest Service Expanding Northwest Forest Plan Meetings To Rural Communities

US Forest Service

The U.S. Forest Service has engaged the public in Seattle, Portland and Redding, California on the need for a new Northwest Forest Plan.  Now it’s moving its road show to smaller communities.

Lisa Romano, speaking for the Siuslaw National Forest Research Station, says at least a dozen local community sessions will be held in upcoming weeks. After introductions from forest service staff, participants will be called on to discuss three questions:

Romano: "What would you like us to consider as we look into revising forest plans in the Northwest? How should the Forest Service incorporate science and apply science to forest plan revision. And then, how should we engage with the public in the forest planning process."

The decision to expand listening sessions came after U.S. Representatives Greg Walden and Peter De Fazio called on the forest agency to include their constituents.

The first such session will be held at the LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus April 27th at 6 p.m.
