It’s 2019 and maybe, you’ve made some resolutions. A common goal is fitness, but staying dedicated for 12 solid months can be a challenge.
Be clear about your health goals when making your resolutions for 2019. That’s according to Kimberly Miller, the Director of Health & Wellness at the Eugene Family YMCA. She suggests trying to add healthy habits to ones you currently have.
MILLER: “If you already have a habit of seeing a friend every Wednesday afternoon, turn that into something active. If your goal is to drink more water, add that to something you’re already doing like brushing your teeth. You know, you don’t have to remind yourself to brush your teeth, you just do it. And if you add a new habit onto that, then it’s easier to adapt.”
Whatever changes you make to your fitness routine in 2019, Miller says taking small steps towards being healthy can make a huge difference.
MILLER: “I always tell people to focus on one thing at a time. If you try to do too many drastic changes, then they can all fail versus kind of focusing on one and having success and then moving to the next.”
