The Oregon Health Authority says the rate of new HIV diagnoses (2008-2017) among Black Oregonians is nearly five times that of whites. To confront this disparity, the NAACP will host two free events in Eugene this weekend-- to engage the Black community in HIV prevention strategies.
In honor of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, there will be a testing event at the historic Mims House in Eugene on Saturday.
“We are happy to work with the HIV-Alliance to try to normalize the idea of getting tested for HIV.”
Eric Richardson is Executive Director of the NAACP Eugene/Springfield branch.
“There will be some refreshments, safe sex kits and information on additional testing, the vaccine roll out and any additional information around COVID-19,” said Richardson.

On Sunday, there will be a ZOOM presentation on HIV and its impact on the Black community. Details below.
