Southern Oregon Soldiers Demobilze Saturday In Medford

Nearly 300 soldiers with the Oregon Army National Guard will be honored in a formal demobilization ceremony Saturday in Medford.

The soldiers are with the 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry Regiment, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The unit is based in Southern Oregon and has soldiers from cities including Roseburg, Coos Bay and Grants Pass. They deployed to Afghanistan in September of 2014.

Ingersoll: "Much of their mission is classified so I can't go into specifics, but they were all over Afghanistan performing security operations."

Christopher Ingersoll is with the Oregon Military Department. He says the soldiers earned a number of commendations.

Ingersoll: "Two Bronze Stars, 112 Army Commendation Medals, 91 Army Achievement Medals and 4 Combat Infantry Badges."

The soldiers have been home for about a month, reconnecting with family. Oregon Governor Kate Brown and U.S. Senator Ron Wyden are a few of the dignitaries expected to attend Saturday's demobilization ceremony in Medford. It begins at 10 a.m. at Spiegelberg Stadim on S. Oakdale Ave.
