Three Oregon counties are establishing a regional committee ahead of the 2020 census. Each person recorded in the area represents $3,200 in federal funding.
Fred Abousleman the executive director of Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments. The regional complete count committee, he says, will spread awareness about the upcoming census to people in Linn, Benton, and Lincoln counties.
“We’ll work with, across our three counties, groups like libraries, we’ll work with senior centers, veterans’ offices, we’ll work with homeless shelters,” says Abousleman. “Whatever organizations are working with large groups of people, we’ll be providing information, we’ll be helping guide them through the census process and getting ready for the day when the census is actually counted.”
Abousleman adds it’s important to reach hard-to-count Oregonians so the state can receive the proper amount of resources.
