State Senator Sara Gelser of Corvallis told area business leaders on a video conference call Tuesday to expect a slow return to normalcy.
She said if too much of the state opens too quickly, there could be a second wave of COVID-19 cases. Gelser said she supports the measured approach taken by her fellow Democrat, Gov. Kate Brown.
“This is the type of thing where there isn’t a road map, and you can never know for sure exactly what the right answer is," said Gelser. "But I feel confident that the decisions are being made carefully and cautiously.”
Gelser also praised the state Employment Department for working to clear out a backlog of unemployment claims. But she said it’s not acceptable that so many people have had to wait so long to get paid.
