Eight Candidates Vie For Two Springfield School Board Seats

Springfield School District

Three Springfield School Board seats are up for election on May 18th. Eight candidates are vying for two of the seats. 

  

  

 

The only uncontested seat is held by Emilio Hernandez Jr. who is seeking re-election for his second term.

The current board member for Position 3 is not seeking re-election. The candidates looking to fill this seat are: 

Steven Hadley, who graduated from University of Oregon and is Global Director of Quality Assurance for ABCAM. 

Brandy Crosby, who is a Journeyman Electrician. 

Anthony Reed is a Journeyman Carpenter and was a delegate at the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters. 

Samantha Alcantar went to Southern Oregon University and Lane Community College for nursing and is now the Director of Citywide Union de Activistas at Community Alliance of Lane County. 

Jonathan Light who previously served 13 years on the board and was the previous Chair.

Incumbent Lisa Barrager faces two challengers. Ruth Linoz and Kelly Mason. Linoz is Executive Director of South Lane Wheels and has served on committees at LTD. Mason is an Academic Advisor at the University of Oregon and serves as Chair of Springfield’s Community Development Advisory Committee.

The deadline to turn in ballots is May 18th.
