4J Adjusts Masking Requirements

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

There’s new guidance on masking at school from the state Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority.

This means that Eugene School District 4J is loosening some requirements. Students and staff are still required to wear masks at schools – indoors and outdoors.

But, starting June 1, masks are optional for staff when they’re outside with no students around. And, fully vaccinated staff won’t be required to wear masks indoors when no students are present, if they've had their status verified

Officials said face masks are now optional for high school athletes and coaches during indoor sports - not during the school day - but only if they’re fully vaccinated and have had their status verified.

For outdoor events, face masks are now optional for everyone.
