Census Figures Show Growth In Most Oregon Counties

U.S. Census Bureau

Census figures released Thursday show that nearly every county in Oregon gained population over the past decade.

As a whole, Oregon’s population increased by just over ten percent between the 2010 census and the 2020 census. The fastest growing county during that time was Deschutes, which jumped by more than 25 percent.

Lane County grew by around nine percent and now tops 382,000. It continues to be the fourth largest county in Oregon, and the largest outside the Portland metro area.

Benton, Linn and Lincoln Counties all grew between nine and 11 percent. Douglas County’s population increased by just three percent over the time period.

The only Oregon county to see a population loss since the last census was Grant County in eastern Oregon, which fell by nearly three percent.

According to a database on the Register-Guard website, the population of Eugene rose by 13.1 percent and now stands at nearly 177,000. The population of Springfield increase by 4.1 percent and is nearly 62,000.

Oregon learned earlier this year that the state's population growth means it will qualify for a sixth congressional seat. The data released Thursday will aide Oregon lawmakers as they draw up boundaries for both congressional and legislative seats for the next ten years.
