City Club of Eugene: Eugene City Council Wards 3 & 5 Candidate Forum

The City Club of Eugene will host along with the League of Women Voters a candidate debate forum on Friday March 30th 2018. Two of the Eugene City Council positions have contested races in May.  The candidates for those positions will provide their vision for improving Eugene and respond to your questions.  This should be a lively and informative exchange of ideas. The Lane County League of Women Voters has provided the format and will help selecting the written questions and keeping the time.

Candidates for Ward 3 (In alphabetical order)

Thomas Bruno

Tom was drafted in 1969 and served from 1970-1992 as an enlisted and commissioned Officer.  He earned his BS while serving and spent his last year and half in and out of Walter Reed. He is 60% disabled. Tom has been raising awareness and trying to save Hendrick’s Park from a tentative PUD next to the park.

Hugh Paterson III

Hugh has been a Eugene resident in the Amazon neighborhood since 2015.  He has served as administrative support staff for an international non-governmental organization (NGO) for the last 10 years and prior to that he worked for companies such as Apple, Inc. and Starbucks. He looks forward to providing leadership in a Eugene that his 2-year old daughter can enjoy for many years to come.

Alan Zelenka

Alan has been advocating for the neighborhoods around the university as their City Councilor for the past 12 years. He has also been at the forefront of the Council’s efforts on the Climate Recovery Ordinance and paid sick leave. If re-elected he said he will focus on sustainability, public safety, and housing and working to protect the neighborhoods of Ward 3.

Mike Clark

Mike has lived in Eugene since coming here to attend the University of Oregon in 1983.  He is a licensed Mortgage loan officer with Director’s Mortgage.  He has 2 teenage kids and has been involved in community organizations for decades.  He is today in his 12th year of service on the Eugene City Council – currently serving as Council President.

 Christopher Dean
Chris is the Principal Broker of Bennett & Dean Real Estate and President-elect of the Eugene Association of Realtors. Over the years Dean has been inspired by the EAR in their efforts to focus on home ownership and equitable housing solutions.

Born and raised in Eugene, Anni started at KLCC in 2000 as a reporter and co-host of Northwest Passage. After graduating from the University of Oregon, Anni moved to New York City. She worked in education for several years before returning to her true love, journalism. Anni co-founded and co-hosted Dailysonic, a narrative-based news podcast. She interned at WNYC's On The Media, then becoming WNYC's assistant producer of Morning Edition.
