City Club of Eugene: Hack For A Cause, A Good Cause

Recorded On: October 26, 2018

Air Date: October 29, 2018

Did you ever pull an all-nighter?   Members of the tech community still do.  They spend 48 hours over a weekend using their expertise, creative solutions for local organizations.   Groups who have benefited from this effort include NAACP, Parenting Now!, Egan Warming Center, Trans*Ponder and White Bird Clinic.

On this program we hear from Allison Weatherly of the Technology Association of Oregon (TAO), who runs the annual Hack for a Cause event.  We meet a representative from the team Quack for a Cause, a winning team of UO students; the Executive Director of Parenting Now!, and Stephen Parac, a dedicated committee member. We learn about the many opportunities to be involved in this community event.

Speakers:

Allison Weatherly: Events & Marketing Manager – Technology Association of Oregon

Allison was drawn to Oregon over 20 years ago. She joined TAO in August of 2016, merging her tech and education backgrounds. Allison has helped shape the Elevate program with SWV’s TAO, showcasing career opportunities to students in Lane County. She was also a key player in bringing the Apprenti program to Oregon, yet another marriage of tech and education.

Alex Geoffrey: Representative of Quack for a Cause

Lynne Swartz: Representative from Parenting Now!

Stephen Parac: Representative of Hack for a Cause Steering Committee
