Eugene Celebrates May Is Bike Month

Kyra Buckley/KLCC

May is National Bike Month, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate locally. The City of Eugene has partnered with local businesses and organizations for a series of events and workshops. The U.O. Bike Program is one group participating in May Is Bike Month.

Max Friday is a mechanic at the U.O. Bike Program. He says he wants more people out riding, and says its part of his job to help cyclists better understand their equipment.

FRIDAY: “So we have a do-it-yourself bike shop here where it’s open to all students and co-op members. They come in, bring their bikes, if they have any questions I’m here to help them work on their bike.”

Friday says community members can use the shop’s services if they pay an annual fee. He says people can also rent bikes through the program.

FRIDAY: “Bicycles can seem like very complicated machinery, but we’ll help you break it down step-by-step and show you what’s going on with your bike. Once you feel like you can master your bike then you can truly go out and be riding with confidence.”

May is full of events for Bike Month, like the Business Commute Challenge and a Traffic Skills 101 class.
