The Deception Creek Complex of wildfires in the Willamette National Forest near Oakridge is now 55 percent contained. It has burned more than 2,200 acres.
Rain showers this weekend helped dampen flames from the complex of fires that were sparked by lightning last month. The fire spread rapidly last week, prompting mandatory evacuations. Smoke caused unhealthy conditions in Oakridge. Pam Sichting is a public information officer with the Deception Complex. She says the rain helped clear out smoke from the valley. Sichting says crews are taking advantage of cooler weather to build fire lines.
Sichting:"We're looking about Wednesday we're starting to dry out we're in a warming trend and getting some of those lighter fuels that carry fire, getting those dried out so that actually can do a nice burn and get a nice black line around this fire."
Some Oakridge residents are still under a level 1 evacuation notice. Most road closures around area campgrounds have been lifted.
