The University of Oregon School of Art and Design has a new building in downtown Eugene. The faculty studios are now in the old Willamette Stationery on Oak Street.
The building was gutted and renovated to house faculty studios. Trygve Faste is a Professor in the School of Design.
“Oh, it’s wonderful. I couldn’t be happier. I just want to be here all the time.”
His studio has lots of windows and looks out on 5th and Oak. Laura Vandenburgh is the Director of the School of Art + Design. She says this location brings the faculty together. Before, they were scattered around the city.
“We’re really proud of the University’s commitment to this project and their recognizing the value of our work." Vandenburgh says, "So I think it’s really a kind of watershed moment really for art and design at the University of Oregon.”
Vandenburgh says faculty are working artists and this space gives them room to work and to stage projects in preparation for showings all over the world.
The 510 Oak Building is a stop on the First Friday Art Walk on December 7th.
