Eugene Saturday Market will not open tomorrow, April 4, as originally scheduled.
Board members first tried to adjust market operations in response to Coronavirus physical distancing guidelines. However, it soon became clear delaying opening weekend was the best option. Eugene Saturday Market’s Vanessa Roy says the delay was a bitter pill to swallow, but the most responsible decision.
“That’s a pretty big distance to space out booths considering the sidewalk is really the only space we have available. And we do 32 markets a year. While missing a few is not ideal, it’s ok. At the same time this is a hardship. These are artists. They depend on this income.”
During this time, Roy says members are finding ways to help. Whether it be taking care of older members or sewing masks for healthcare professionals.
She also says there will be a big celebration when the Market opens again.
“Expect tiara’s and sparkles.”
Eugene Saturday Market is working on alternative options for customers to buy wares during the closure. More information can be found on their website.
