Airwaves to Algorithms: The Evolution of Family Media Exhibit Opening
The Benton County Historical Society is proud to announce its newest exhibit, From Airwaves to Algorithms: The Evolution of Family Media, opening August 9, 2025 and on view through April 4, 2026 at the Philomath Museum.
This engaging and interactive exhibition explores the evolution of media, illustrating how we have received and shared information over time. From the early days of radio and television to the age of computers and the Internet, this exhibit highlights the merging of entertainment and information in the family setting. Discover how media shaped public life, changed how we interact with the world, and brought families together in front of radios and screen. Through historic objects and interactive displays, visitors will journey through decades of change, learning how information has gone from one-way broadcasts to interactive, personalized experiences.
Natascha Adams, Curator of Exhibitions, a relatively new team member of the museum shares, “It’s been a delight to research and develop this exhibit, and to present it in a fun, visually engaging way. It’s unlike anything we’ve showcased at BCHS before—designed to be enjoyable for all ages and featuring hands-on interactives that I’m especially excited to share.”
Teachers can access “Airwaves to Algorithms” lesson plans for use in the classroom before and after a field trip. Curriculum topics are tied to empowering students to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and responsible citizens in the information age! Field trips can be arranged for school classes, homeschool groups, after school clubs, and other community groups by contacting Anya Ballinger, Curator of Education, education@bentoncountymuseums.org
