Høstedans | Classical on Broadway Series

Høstedans | Classical on Broadway Series
Høstedans will perform a concert of elegant and intimate music as part of the Jazz Station’s Classical on Broadway series. Their classical repertoire will include music of Bach, Mozart, Shostakovich and Piazolla, as well as new music by Paul Safar, Kathryn Brunhaver and Alice Blankenship. Original Høstedans arrangements of folk-classical music will lighten the mood, and, in tribute to the Jazz Station, Høstedans will welcome pianist Francis Anderson-Blankenship and Soprano Sophie Therrell to the stage for a touch of vocal jazz.

Høstedans, which means “Harvest Dance” in Danish, was formed during the Covid lockdown of 2020, when all live concerts ceased, and new projects and dreams flourished in musicians’ living rooms. Initially formed to arrange and record children’s dance music from the Junction City Scandinavian Festival, the versatility of the ensemble’s instrumentation has allowed Høstedans to cross over musical genres.
With classical performers Michael Anderson on clarinet, Kathryn Brunhaver on cello, Julia Frantz and Alice Blankenship on violins, the ensemble has expanded its repertoire to include original arrangements of classical music, new music by living composers, a touch of tango, Celtic, Americana, and torch songs.
