LEGACY: 75th Anniversary Exhibit

LEGACY: 75th Anniversary Exhibit

The Maude Kerns Art Center is proud to present “LEGACY: 75th Anniversary Exhibit,” opening with a Celebration on Friday, May 16, from 5 – 7 pm. “LEGACY” tells the story of the Art Center, celebrating the Center’s important place in the Eugene-Springfield community over its 75-year history and the breadth of its influence within the arts community and beyond.

This remarkable exhibit highlights single works by 75 selected artists that are among the many artists who have had a significant impact on the Art Center. The exhibit is a testament to the rich and varied history of the Center, which was founded in 1950 by a group of artists, including Maude I. Kerns, the Center’s namesake and internationally recognized non-objective artist. Many of the artists actively involved in the early days of the Center are represented, including James Bartell, Ron Tore Jansen, LaVerne Krause, Anne and David McCosh, Sylvia Seder, and Mike Van.

“LEGACY” also features archival materials, artifacts, ephemera, and binders with memorabilia related to Art Center programs, such as the original Clothesline Sale, the Art and the Vineyard Festival, the Art for All Seasons holiday show, the Jello Art Show, and many more. The public is invited to record memories of the Art Center in a Story Booth located in the gallery.

The Opening Celebration for “LEGACY” with remarks by Executive Director Michael Fisher takes place on Friday, May 16, from 5 – 7 pm. The exhibit is held in conjunction with the year-long celebration of the Maude Kerns Art Center’s 75th Anniversary.
