"What is happiness?" A Community Philosophy Circle at the Downtown Eugene Public Library
Whether or not we realize it, most of us organize our lives around the pursuit of happiness. Often, we determine what actions to take based on the happiness we expect to enjoy, or the misery we expect to avoid. When we think about what is best for others-- whether those closest to us or the whole human community-- we tend to focus on what will help people feel happiest. But as we pursue happiness, do we have a clear sense of what, exactly, we are pursuing? What is happiness? Is happiness one thing, or many? Regardless of how we define happiness, is it really the most important thing in life, or are some things even more important?
The Community Philosophy Circle is a monthly forum for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and share opinions and ideas in a structured, nonthreatening community discussion. Through public discourse, people are invited to express opinions and respond to the opinions of others as they tackle deep and universal questions about life, identity, community and responsibility. Community Philosophy Circles take place at 6:00pm on the second Wednesday
of each month at the downtown Eugene Public Library.
