Albany Police Announce Two Arrests In Alleged Hate Crime

City of Albany

UPDATE: On April 22, Albany Police announced a third arrest in the case. The third person arrested and charged was a 16-year-old boy.

Police in Albany have arrested two teenagers in an alleged hate crime that took place in a city park last week.

The victim in the reported case was a 13-year-old boy. Police referred to the incident as an assault and said it happened after the victim spoke out against hate speech. Police say they are looking for at least three more teenagers involved in the attack, which they say took place at Swanson Park on April 13 at 5:57 p.m.

The two teenagers arrested were a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. The three teenagers still being sought by police are all 16-year-old boys. Police say another female of unknown age is being sought in connection with a vehicle that was reportedly used in the incident.

There is a rally in support of the victim and against racism planned for Friday at 6 p.m. in front of the Linn County Circuit Court in Albany.
