The Eugene Police Patrol and Metro Explosives Disposal unit will be responding to firework calls for service this new years holiday weekend.
EPD and the city are asking the public to report the use of illegal fireworks, even if there aren’t enough units available to respond, so the city can track the use illegal fireworks for future planning.
A temporary ban on fireworks has been issued for the South Hills area from 18th Avenue and east of Agate. The decision, effective through 2022, was made by Eugene City Councilors in response to drought conditions.
This includes a ban on legal fireworks like fountains, flitter sparklers, ground spinners and wheels. According to the ordinance fines may not exceed $500, and presumptive fines could cost $250.
Legal consumer fireworks are restricted to July 3-4 and Dec.1-Jan. 1 within city limits. Commercial public displays with the Eugene city limits are restricted to July 3-5
Oregon Law prohibits illegal fireworks that travel more than 12 feet in the air and explode like bottle rockets, roman candles, and firecrackers.
