As Oregonians Hunker Down At Home During Pandemic, Weed Sales Grow

Brian Bull

Home confinement and stress has boosted business for some products, including cannabis.

Adam Deering is general manager of Amazon Organics in Eugene.  He says there’s been a surge in orders since the state directive to limit public interaction.

“It’s doubled, there’s been a huge increase in traffic and in delivery," he tells KLCC.  "I mean, all of the products have definitely high value in mental health and calming and relaxing, and y’know, having something to do also during this downtime.”

Deering says they’ve three delivery vehicles, and they’re trying to get deliveries done in 45 minutes to an hour.  Cannabis flower, edibles, and vape cartridges are the best selling products.

Deering says not all dispensaries will survive this pandemic if they don’t adapt. He says they’re heavily into sanitizing their store and offering curbside pickup as well.

Meanwhile, trade resources website American Marijuana has released a new studyon attitudes about cannabis and the pandemic.   Its sample size of 990 marijuna consumers show many considered - or strongly considered - weed as part of their essential list of things to stock up on in addition to toilet paper, food, sanitizer, and face masks.
