Mapleton Schools Update Their Plan

Karen Richards

As previously reported, the Mapleton School District created a model plan for in-person class this fall. After the latest guidance, they’ve switched gears.

Superintendent Jodi O’Mara said Mapleton will start school online. The district’s small size, though, allows them to personalize. O’Mara said they’ll have on-site registration, and individualized orientation, “Comprehensive distance learning, with technology that we’re providing, is new to our Kindergarten through eighth-grade families," she said. "And so we thought it was really important to start the year off right, by meeting with families, teaching them how to use the technology, but also just answering their questions.

O’Mara said if a parent works during the day, they can adjust the schoolwork. Mapleton will have hard copy packets if people prefer, and provide internet hot spots if needed. The district will reassess the metrics every four to five weeks, and move to hybrid learning as soon as the case rates and positivity rates allow.
