UO Ramps Up COVID-19 Testing Before And After November Break

University of Oregon

This week, the University of Oregon expects to conduct more than 3,500 COVID-19 tests. All Residence Hall students are required to take a self-administered nasal swab test. And it’s voluntary for off-campus students.

The uptick in testing comes ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday when many students head home. U-O spokesperson Kay Jarvis said they don’t know how many students plan to travel but the university has made contingency plans.

“We are expecting a number of students to stay. To travel and then stay home,” she said. “We are offering all classes remotely beginning November 30th through the end of Fall term to allow that to happen.”

Jarvis said in response to Governor Kate Brown’s 2-week “freeze” order, the student rec center and two museums on campus are closed. Food is grab and go only.  She said students who return to residence halls after the November break will be required to take another test-- but quarantine will not be necessary-- unless the result is positive.
