Protestors Decry Post-Fire Roadside Logging
Protestors gathered in a park near the Oregon Capitol Thursday to denounce what they called overzealous logging practices in areas burned in last year’s wildfires. Specifically, the group wants the state to stop cutting trees along the sides of state highways.
Timothy Ingalsbee is the director of a Eugene-based group called Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics and Ecology.
“Folks are saying they need to pump the brakes. I think they need to pull the emergency brake, because this is really out of control," he said.
The Oregon Department of Transportation says the trees being removed are potentially hazardous and could fall on passing vehicles.
