Wednesday evening, more than 100 people showed up for a town hall meeting about how to help homeless people in Eugene. The theme was YIMBY, Yes in My Back Yard.
Emily Farthing works for the city and helped organize the town hall. She says it's a forum for people to connect and talk about how they can help.
Farthing: "And creating a YIMBY attitude, what that looks like to say Yes in My Backyard. Does that mean you're supporting a church hosting a car camping program? Does that mean you're saying yes, I'm willing to support a rest-stop in my neighborhood? What does Yes in My Back Yard look like to you?"
Mayor Kitty Piercy recently asked for the state to do more to help homeless people in Oregon. The city is considering a dusk to dawn camping program for people to have safe outdoor places to sleep this winter.
