Christmas Tree Permits Now Available

Siuslaw National Forest

Permits to cut down your own Christmas tree in one of Oregon’s national forests are now available for purchase.

Why go out in the woods when Christmas trees are ubiquitous on corner lots at this time of year? Lisa Romano, public affairs officer for Siuslaw National Forest, says think of the adventure!

“It’s definitely not a typical day out in the woods if you’re trying to find and cut your own tree, but if you’re prepared for the weather conditions, and you’re letting people know where you’re headed before you go out there, it can be a great way to spend the day,” she said.

Most Forest Service offices are closed to visitors due to the pandemic, but the permits are being sold online at recreation.gov. The permits cost $5 and are good through December 31. Fourth and fifth graders can get a free permit through the “Every Kid Outdoors” program.
