City & County Agree On Land Swap

The Lane County Board of Commissioners and Eugene City Council have agreed to a land swap.
The agreement will provide for a site for a new County Courthouse on the former City Hall Site. The New City Hall will be built on the current Butterfly parking lot at 8th and Oak downtown.  Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis says the city will put out bids for a new City Hall design to fit the lot.
“I think that it has been very healthy for us to sort of have a reset button on this process with City Hall,” Vinis says, “That the first one didn’t evolve as we had hoped or expected, that there was a lot of frustration around it. But the effort that went into it is not lost effort.”
Vinis says the City Hall design will include a permanent home for the Lane County Farmer’s Market. The Butterfly lot where City Hall will go is part of the original historic public square in Eugene. City leaders want to preserve that location as the civic center.
