Eugene Activists Protest Trump Immigration Policies

Rachael McDonald

About 4 dozen people held a noon rally at the Eugene Federal Building Friday to protest the Trump Administration’s immigration policies. It was part of a national day of protest organized by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The ACLU is suing the administration over what it calls an inhuman policy of separating families when they seek asylum at the U.S. border. Zoe Rolly-Keef is with People Power, a grass-roots organization of ACLU.

“What’s happening with the Trump Administration separating children from their families, people who are asylum seekers coming here for a better life. And it’s absolutely inhumane and wrong to separate children from their families. Families belong together.”
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently announced an “zero tolerance” policy meant to deter Central Americans from trying to cross the border illegally.
