Mark Lewis, UO Professor, Storyteller Dies

University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication

University of Oregon School of Journalism professor Mark Lewis has died. He was well known for his storytelling and voiceover work.

Professor Lewis died from a pulmonary embolism on Dec. 7. He came to the U of O in 2012. Lewis taught a presentation workshop class inspiring students to be creative storytellers. Julie Newton, interim Edwin L. Artzt Dean at the Journalism school says he was a key colleague and a kind, joyous individual.

Newton: “What he shared was who he was. And through that experience, through getting to know him and experiencing his mentorship, students learned confidence, they learned presentation skills, they acquired a sense of presence that was unique in the way that he could help them develop.”

Professor Lewis won two Emmy awards and did voiceover work for The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Disney. Students have created a memorial in Allen Hall sharing their memories of Lewis.
